Video editing is one of the most in-demand creative skills today. Reels, YouTube videos, ads, corporate films, news packages and online classes all need an editor before anyone can watch them. If you live in Noida, Greater Noida or anywhere in Delhi NCR and want to learn editing in a structured, job-oriented way, this guide is for you.
Below we explain what you should learn in a video editing course, how to judge whether a course is worth your time, and how women from low-income families can train through the Karuna Media Master Program in Noida.
Why learn video editing in Delhi NCR
Delhi NCR is home to a large number of media houses, advertising agencies, production companies, digital start-ups and corporate offices. Many of them hire editors directly, and many more outsource editing to freelancers.
Video editing is also a skill you can grow over time. You might start by cutting short social media clips, then move into longer YouTube content, corporate videos, documentaries or post-production for films. Each step builds on the same core skills.
What a complete video editing course should cover
Editing fundamentals
- Importing and organising footage so you can find clips quickly.
- Cutting for story: choosing the best takes and building rhythm.
- Continuity, pacing and transitions that feel natural rather than flashy.
- Exporting correctly for YouTube, Instagram, broadcast and other platforms.
Professional software
Learning an industry-standard editor gives you skills employers recognise. DaVinci Resolve is widely used for editing and colour grading, and its free version is powerful enough for professional work, which makes it a sensible tool to learn first.
Colour correction and grading
Colour correction fixes problems such as wrong white balance or exposure. Colour grading gives a video its mood. Both are skills clients notice immediately.
Sound in the edit
Good editors know how to clean dialogue, balance music and voice, and add sound effects. Bad audio can ruin a beautifully shot video.
Motion graphics and VFX basics
Titles, lower thirds, simple animations and basic visual effects make your work look polished and increase what you can charge.
Working with real projects
Exercises are useful, but nothing replaces editing real footage for a real brief, with feedback and a deadline.
How to judge a video editing course
Before you sign up, ask these questions:
- Is there hands-on practice on real computers with professional software?
- Are there live mentors who review your work and give feedback?
- Will you finish with a portfolio or showreel you can show employers?
- Is there career support, such as interview preparation or placement help?
- Is the organisation transparent about who runs it and how it is funded?
If the answer to most of these is no, the course may be “free” but not very valuable.
Learning video editing at KMMP, Noida
The Karuna Media Master Program (KMMP) is a job-focused media programme run by Puppets Picture Education Trust, a registered charitable trust with a branch in Sector 11, Noida. It is designed for women from low-income backgrounds who want practical skills that lead to paid work.
Video editing as a specialisation
Video editing is one of KMMP’s specialisation modules, alongside filmmaking, cinematography, audio engineering, VFX and AI content creation. The post-production part of the curriculum includes video editing in DaVinci Resolve, motion graphics and VFX integration, sound design and colour grading for cinematic delivery.
A structured 12-month programme
The full programme runs for 12 months and around 720 hours:
- Nine months of core learning, with daily theory and practical studio sessions.
- Three months of career development, with masterclasses, interview practice and an industry launch.
Learners build milestone projects along the way, such as a dynamic showreel, which become part of their professional portfolio.
Real studios and equipment
You do not need your own editing laptop to start. Training happens in the trust’s facilities. You can see what is available on the Infrastructure page.
Study and earn
KMMP follows a “Study + Earn” model designed to help learners start earning during the course, so training does not have to wait until family finances allow.
Who can apply
According to the Apply page, the programme is open to:
- Women aged 16 and above.
- From low-income households, with family income below about ₹20,000 a month in cities or ₹15,000 a month in rural areas.
- Any education level, including school dropouts, 10th or 12th pass and graduates who could not find work.
- Anyone with a genuine interest in media, editing or AI. Basic English helps, but it is not a barrier.
Applicants from outside Noida are welcome to apply too; the application form asks for your city or village and state.
The selection process
- Fill in the short online application form.
- The team shortlists applicants based on eligibility and motivation.
- A supportive interview about your goals.
- Income and identity verification.
- Final selection and onboarding.
The team generally contacts applicants on WhatsApp or by phone.
Career paths after a video editing course
Once you have solid editing skills and a showreel, you can explore roles such as:
- Junior video editor at an agency or production house.
- Social media video editor for brands and creators.
- Post-production assistant on films, web series or documentaries.
- Freelance editor for weddings, events, schools and small businesses.
- Colourist or motion graphics assistant as you specialise.
Pay depends on the employer, city and your skills. KMMP’s programme page lists starting career outcomes in the range of ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 a month.
Practise between classes
- Re-edit something you love. Take a film trailer or ad and try cutting your own version for practice.
- Edit phone footage daily. Short, regular projects build speed.
- Learn keyboard shortcuts. Professional editors rarely reach for the mouse.
- Ask for feedback from mentors and classmates, and act on it.
- Save your best work in one folder so your showreel is always ready.
Help a woman in Noida start her editing career
Training is only possible because donors and CSR partners fund computers, software, studios and mentors. If you would like to support a learner, you can donate or sponsor a student. Puppets Picture Education Trust is registered under 12A and 80G and holds CSR-1 registration for corporate partners.
